- Description
The Associate Director of the Office of Sponsored Programs and Research (OSPR) is responsible for managing research development and pre-award grant activities at MSU. This position provides assistance to faculty, staff and students in finding, assessing and selecting potential funding sources. Works closely with faculty to prepare convincing and detailed grant proposals, including the construction of accurate budgets in compliance with university, state, federal and sponsor guidelines. This position reports to the Director of the Office of Sponsored Programs and Research.
- Examples
Develops materials for and engages in internal marketing of OSPR services, including development and presentation of faculty professional workshops. Identifies and evaluates funding sources. Stays current with grant opportunities and disseminates in a timely fashion relevant material to faculty depending on their special interest. Fosters and stimulates the interests of faculty in seeking grants by holding meetings and workshops on grant-related topics. Advises grant applicants on university financial, administrative, and personnel policies to ensure that proposals comply with relevant policies and regulations. Provides support and assistance to faculty in all aspects of proposal preparation, including conceptualization, formatting, editing, budget preparation, and submission of proposals. Maintains a working knowledge of federal/state/private agencies' regulations and policies; stays abreast of new laws affecting sponsored programs activities; and monitors and ensures University's compliance. Prepares regular and ad hoc reports for MSU as well as outside agencies concerning our grant activity. Supervises the maintenance of files containing grant-related information for all pending grants. Supervises student worker(s) and/or graduate students assigned to pre-award services.

Excellent written communications skills with solid attention to detail in editorial and proofreading work. Good interpersonal skills for developing and maintaining effective working relationships with faculty, co-workers, and external constituencies. Strong organizational and administrative skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively and to organize and manage time effectively. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Word processing and spreadsheet competency. Initiative, creativity, and talent for problem-solving. Ability to manage multiple projects with different deadlines. Discretion in dealing with confidential information. General knowledge of a broad range of academic fields preferred.
- Education
Master’s degree or equivalent is required.

Must maintain the Office of Sponsored Programs and Research website through the content management interface, and work effectively with Internet-based systems such as grants.gov and FastLane. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
