Title
International Recruitment and Retention Specialist
Description

Works directly with and reports to Senior Associate Director of Global Education. Works in all areas pertaining to international student recruitment and retention. This includes oversight of the international student application process from prospective student to accepted student. After admission, must work with students through issuance of I-20, and arrival on campus. Once on campus, advises, counsels, and supports international students throughout their educational journey. Must collaborate and work with various campus offices on fulfilling the international student recruitment needs.

Examples

Must be willing and able to travel internationally, make presentations to interested students, and build partnerships with international institutions and organizations. Must be able to create marketing and promotional materials that are unique to international student admissions.  Must be able to use software system that tracks international student applications, craft targeted recruitment messages, and send those out during the recruitment cycle. Update parents, guardians, advisors, government officials, and other approved 3rd party representatives to discuss international student progress. Coordinate and advise international student organizations to support international students on campus. Counsels international students to help them overcome cultural differences while studying in the United States. Update website related to international student admissions and support. Build relationships with international recruitment agencies and governments to encourage student applications.  Coordinates departmental social media platforms related to international student recruitment and retention.

Physical Condition

Able to travel internationally on occasion.

Experience

Must have extensive knowledge of university processes and working with students. Must be able to work with international students in understanding their goals and advising them of appropriate programs. Must be aware and understanding of different cultural norms and differences, and the impact those norms have on international students studying in the United States. Experience working with, supporting, and advocating for the needs of international student populations. Must have international travel or education experience. Must be flexible in a wide range of administrative duties, office machines and procedures, and working in a multi-dimensional office..

Knowledge

Knowledge of international student issues and processes preferred, especially the F-1 visa process. Knowledge of international education models and outcomes is required. Must possess good editing and proofreading skills.  Must be knowledgeable in Excel, Word, Power Point, Google Docs, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Outlook.  Must to be able to create promotional content to include videos, flyers, and brochures. Prefer knowledge of Banner software. Must be able to work autonomously. Knowledge of a language other than English is preferred.  

Education

Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Business/Management, Mass Communication, Public Relations, Counseling, or closely related field.

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Should possess good public relations skills, excellent verbal and written skills, and ability to communicate effectively. Must be well organized and able to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and departments on campus. Ability to commutate with students, faculty members and others both in a one-on-one setting and in large groups.   Ability to work with a diverse and multicultural population. Demonstrates a self-motivated work ethic. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *Physical exam required. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
