Title
Assistant Director, Graduate Admissions
Description

Works closely with the Dean of the McAda Graduate School to coordinate the recruitment of graduate students and to create a climate conducive to success, retention, graduation, and engagement. Oversees the graduate admission process from student inquiries through the distribution of admission reviews to graduate coordinators. Work is performed under general supervision with latitude for initiative and independent judgment within established policies and procedures. Reports to the Dean of the McAda Graduate School.

Examples

Implements recruitment activities for graduate students seeking admission to the university; assists in developing recruitment publications; schedules and coordinates recruitment events. Uses recruitment, retention, and graduation data to support recommendations for recruitment and graduate student activities and events. Assists faculty with targeted recruitment efforts. Acts as liaison with Information Systems and Webmaster staff to assist with the adaptation and implementation of technology. Travels extensively for recruitment/retention of prospective MSU graduate students. Makes presentations to and works directly with the Graduate Student Association (GSA) to support program activities. Processes and responds to applications, transcripts, test scores and reviews in a timely manner. Enters graduate student information into the university's database and prepares reports. Conducts a quality assurance internal audit of student admission files once a semester. Assists with supervision and training of Graduate Admissions Office personnel to include student assistants. Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Condition

Must be able to travel and make presentations before groups. Must be able to lift a minimum of twenty pounds.

Experience

Progressive experience and training in a college environment, preferably in college admissions, school relations, and/or recruitment. Experience in enrollment management planning and technology strongly preferred. 

Knowledge

Understanding of university admission policies, regulations, and degree requirements. Knowledge of general office practices and procedures, including business English, spelling, punctuation. Requires strong written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of various software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, and PowerPoint and ability to generate appropriate reports from the recruitment database. Knowledge of and experience with graduate admissions management software preferred.  

Education

Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree is preferred and may be substituted for experience.

Requires strong interpersonal skills; ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects with meticulous attention to detail. Must work effectively with diverse populations. Must be well organized. Able to work independently with little supervision. Must make a strong, positive representation of MSU and attract quality applicants to achieve enrollment goals. Must have the ability to speak effectively to groups and use technology in presentations. Must be a positive representative of MSU. Personal cell phone usage may be required to complete position duties, including multi-function authentication requirements. *Must be able to work irregular hours, including some evenings and weekends. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *Requires a valid Texas driver's license. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
