Director, Global Education Office
Description

Sets, articulates and is responsible for the vision and mission of Global Education at the University in accordance with the university's mission statement and goals and objectives. Responsible for the creation and administration of international study abroad programs. Oversees and leads the growth, enrollment, and international recruitment activities for the university. Responsible for oversight of an Intensive English Language Institute, which provides high quality English instruction to an academically diverse student population preparing to study at the university level. Also responsible for a wide range of support services and programs for the benefit of foreign students studying locally, and local students studying abroad. This includes advising, and office administration. Reports to the Vice-President for Student Affairs while working collaboratively with the Provost and Vice-President for Academic Affairs.

Examples

Maintains a vigorous outreach program to recruit and retain students. Includes both foreign students studying locally and Midwestern State University students studying globally. When necessary, makes sure international students studying locally receive additional language training before being enrolled in classes. Serves as liaison between the Study Abroad staff and all academic offices. Responsible for faculty outreach in study abroad, selecting of faculty to lead study abroad programs/classes, working with the Registrar's Office for grading purposes (including grade appeals, course substitutions, and transfers). Identifies, cultivates and works with new foreign recruitment markets and agents. Leads the national British Studies Program Consortium, administered by Midwestern State University.

Physical Condition

Must be willing and able to travel extensively, both domestically and internationally.

Experience

Five years supervisory experience in a college or university setting is required. Previous experience in student recruiting or study abroad preferred. Prior teaching at and/or academic administration at a four-year college or university preferred.

Knowledge

Should be knowledgeable in international education programs, immigration law, and foreign student recruitment trends and issues. Must be knowledgeable in the use of personal computers as well as commonly used office software programs such as Word, Excel and Outlook, as well as student database software. Must be an effective oral communicator and be comfortable talking to large groups of people.

Education

Master's degree required. Earned doctorate preferred.

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Must be highly motivated with the ability to interact with students, parents, and university officials on all levels. Must be able to establish and maintain rapport with international personnel. Should have strong written and oral communication skills and be able to work with a diverse population of students and co-workers in stressful situations. Must be able to travel extensively. Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act. *Regular reliable attendance is required. * Must be available some nights and weekends. Must periodically serve on a standby or on-call basis. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
