Title
Assistant Director, Student Leadership and Involvement
Description

Responsible for the active promotion of student involvement and engagement at Midwestern State University through participation in registered student organizations. Supports all registered student organizations by planning and implementing trainings for student officers and faculty-staff advisors. Coordinates and implements student leadership development workshops. Advises the University Programming Board (UPB). Serves as a co-advisor to the Student Government Association. Assists in the provision of social, recreational, cultural, and educational programming opportunities at MSU Texas to foster student belonging and engagement, and cultivate connections among students, the university, and Wichita Falls community. Responsible for the weekly and monthly student activities calendars, and promotion, monitoring, and assessment of student activities provided through the Office of Student Involvement. Supervises graduate and undergraduate student staff. Reports to the Director of Student Leadership and Involvement.

Examples

Develops online and in-person training programs for student organization leaders and advisors, which may include aspects of relevant university policies and procedures, successful program and event planning, budgeting, risk management, organization operations, recruitment, and officer transition. Provides leadership development workshops to support the development of marketable skills. Implements promotional programs for students to learn about opportunities to join registered student organization on campus.


Plans, promotes, implements, and evaluates annual student tradition and spirit activities including Homecoming, Stampede (Welcome) Week, and Finals Frenzy. Co-manages residential peer educators specializing in first-year student involvement mentoring with the Office of Residence Life and Housing.

Advances philosophies of student affairs while actively promoting principles of belonging, wellness, and self-efficacy in staffing, programming, and student leadership. Supports all programs and initiatives originating in the Office of Student Involvement. Assists in the total development of the Division of Student Affairs through participation in university, division, and departmental committees. Represents the department at university functions when appropriate. Assumes responsibility for other special projects and committee work as delegated. Performs additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Student Involvement.

Physical Condition

Sufficient strength, stamina, and mobility to perform manual tasks associated with programming responsibilities of the position.

Experience

Must possess at least 2-3 years of professional experience in campus activities, student organization advisement and support, and/or event planning. Demonstrated experience working with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds.

Knowledge

Must possess significant knowledge of Fraternity and Sorority life. Knowledge of successful program planning, promotion, and implementation. Knowledge and skills in the areas of leadership, organization, risk management, and advising. Requires the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationship with students, staff, and community organizations. Requires the ability to create and deliver effective group presentations. Must be proficient in the use of computers and commonly used office software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Outlook.

Education

Bachelor's degree required. A master’s degree in higher education, student personnel administration, counseling, or related field is preferred.

Additional Requirements

Possess experience with student leadership development training, group workshop facilitation, program implementation and evaluation, and the assessment of student learning and development. Must possess the ability to effectively supervise student staff and maintain excellent interpersonal and written communication skills. The position requires a person with the ability to manage a variety of tasks and see multiple projects through to completion, and a willingness to work flexible/extended hours, nights, and weekends.
