- Description
The Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Manager oversees programs and service activities of the Center, including development, implementation of services to youth, health career students, and professionals in the medical field. The AHEC Center Manager reports to the Dean of the Robert D. & Carol Gunn College of Health Science & Human Services and to the Texas Tech University Health Science Center (TTUHSC) Program Office.
- Examples
Coordinates development and implementation of a health career program for students as well as community based education and continuing education programs. Manages departmental budgets, monitors and approves expenditures and prepares and monitors program compliance. Supervises departmental staff, including assigning and planning work, ensuring training, evaluating performance, and making recommendations on hiring, firing, and disciplining. Monitors and evaluates program operations as they relate to production, quality, reporting, deadline, and other compliance requirements. Maintains current knowledge of laws, regulations, assistance programs, and financing methods for health education programs through reading and studying new procedures and guidelines, attending workshops and seminars, taking short courses, and attending agency and organizational meetings. Directs the Center's preparation for periodic fiscal and program monitoring by TTUHSC and other entities. Serves as a liaison between state and local government agencies and other groups and individuals concerned with health education and careers. Serves on boards and committees related to health career activities, as appropriate. Coordinates publicity and public relations functions to market the Center's services and programs in coordination with West Texas AHEC Program Office. Establishes an advisory board and coordinates advisory board activities, including quarterly meetings and reviews of matters of concern regarding regional AHEC services and programs. Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

- Experience
Five years' progressively responsible experience preferred in administering human service programs,preferably in program administration, community development, or a health related field. Ability to analyze and evaluate program services and activities; interpret and apply applicable laws, rules, and regulations; prepare reports, statements, and correspondence in a neat and comprehensible manner.
- Knowledge
Knowledge of: general management, financial, accounting, budgeting, recordkeeping, reporting, information system, and program planning principles; health-related programs; budget preparation and analysis methods; local, state, and federal regulations relating to human and social service programs; program development, implementation, and evaluation procedures; survey information gathering and analysis techniques; and current personnel practices and relevant laws
- Education
Bachelor's degree in business or health related field required. Master's preferred.
