Title
Information Technology Infrastructure Manager
Description

Under the general supervision of the Chief Information Officer, confers with University faculty and administrative staff to define networking needs. Coordinates and manages maintenance of University networking equipment. Maintain budgetary information and standards for large enterprise class network and varied client computing platforms including hardware and software. Responsible for planning, organizing, implementing and maintenance initiatives for IT infrastructure activities including network management (cabling, wireless, wired and telephone); application and technical services, and security/disaster recovery/business continuity. Responsible for data center oversight, maintenance, support and security. Responsible for audio visual installations, troubleshooting, replacement and design.

Examples

The Infrastructure Services Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and maintaining strategies and initiatives in the following key areas:  Network Management - Responsible for design, development, procurement, and ongoing support of networks, including management of cabling facilities, wireless, wired local areas networks, wide area networks and telephone networks.  Network Server Operations - Responsible for the design and implementation of enterprise network applications. Coordinate installation, maintenance with other specialized areas within campus community.  Security - Responsible for IT security for data center, network closets, to include development of the appropriate policies and procedures.  Responsible for ongoing support of the voice network, including changes to infrastructure and/or programming the telephone switch, voicemail system as well as VoIP systems.  Audio Visual Management - Responsible for design, development, procurement, and ongoing support for campus audio visual installations.  Data Center - Provides oversight of data center including power, cooling, security, equipment repair, and replacement. Responsible for enterprise-wide networking services and support to include hardware, software, and cabling. Responsible for data center. Perform other duties as defined by the management.

Physical Condition

Ability to lift 50 lbs. Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.

Experience

At least 5 years' work experience in network management support with strong emphasis on system integration and network engineering. At least 3 years' experience in management, direction of staff, and major projects. Prefer college degree, however, technical training and a strong networking background and broad networking knowledge is acceptable. Strong background in network installation and troubleshooting. Working knowledge of the installation and maintenance of active networking gear, various IEEE wiring standards, and fiber cabling.

Knowledge

Installation/maintenance of twisted-pair, fiber optic cable, coax, Wi-Fi connectivity and campus audio visual. Strong scheduling, project management and planning skills.

Education

Prefer college degree; however, high school graduation with heavy experience in the specific job areas is acceptable. Considerable specialized training in network hardware and software installation and troubleshooting or equivalent experience. Technical training in the installation and maintenance of coax, twisted-pair and fiber optic cable.

Network design and cable plant maintenance. Switch and router installation and maintenance. Ability to install fiber optic cable, 10/100/1000bT, 10b5 and crawlspace punch block work.
