Title
Warehouse Specialist
Description

Responsible for the administration and supervision of warehouse activities including: purchase requisitions scheduling deliveries, shipping and receiving, maintaining/replenishing , inventory control, processing of storage and , surplus and distribution of materials. Provide excellent customer service to all areas dependent on warehouse inventory. Must be able to manage employees and the quality of workflow in and out of warehouse while promoting proper internal controls. Responsible for the security of control inventory. Performance is subject to review by the State Auditors Office, Internal Auditor, and Director of Purchasing. Activities are to be accomplished safely in accordance with all current and pertinent rules, directives, regulations, laws, and common sense associated with a warehouse environment. Reports to the Director of Purchasing and Contract Management.

Examples

Efficiently order, receive, return, store and stock supplies and equipment based on work orders received by following University procurement, receiving and inventory procedures. Accept financial responsibility for inventory levels and annual inventory and monitor daily and monthly reports on warehouse stock levels. Anticipate the needs of stock for peak periods of activity and order as needed. Prepares receiving reports on incoming shipments to the Warehouse, identifies and inspects shipments to ensure proper documentation of commodities and their quantities. Must have skill in using logic and reasoning in identifying complex problems to develop and evaluate options to implement solutions. Must manage own time and the time of others. Must be able to complete assignments accurately and with attention to detail. Must set priorities by effectively plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others as well as being able to train them. Prepares outgoing shipments by properly crating, packing, weighing, D.O.T. labeling if required, and arranges for pick-up by the shipping company. Maintains and performs inventory control on supplies and surplus equipment. Performs house keeping functions as required to keep the facility clean and safe. Responsible for the building security and inspection for maintenance in building and equipment. Handles online auctions for surplus equipment and monitoring storage of equipment, as well as handling the issues from inventory while supplying costs associated to those issues to the business office. Performs other duties as required by supervisor in carrying out functions of the Warehouse.

Physical Condition

Must have sufficient physical agility and strength to climb stairs, ladders, and step stools throughout the work day, with some twisting, reaching or stretching the body while carrying 25 to 30 pounds of weight. Must be able to properly lift 65 pounds to waist level and 30 pounds to arms length above the head. Physical condition must be sufficient to safely mount and dismount different types of forklifts, operate pallet jacks, and two and four wheel dollies. Physical stamina and conditioning must be maintained to sufficiently and safely perform the duties of the storekeeper while employed at MSU.

Experience

One to two years experience in a warehouse environment, with record keeping that was subject to external audit.

Knowledge

Requires working knowledge of computers and computer program (Excel, MS Word, and Outlook) and knowledge of office procedures, principles and practices. Knowledge of inventory controls. Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions as well as the ability to delegate. Working knowledge of D.O.T., E.P.A., and O.S.H.A. rules and regulations governing chemical handling, storage, and shipment. Requires knowledge of all safety equipment found in a warehouse environment. Ability to safely operate forklifts and other related accessories used to properly handle material, supplies, and equipment is required and provide maintenance when necessary

Education

Requires high school graduation. Job related education by either accredited college courses or documented military or trade school highly desired.

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Must have the ability to make positive changes to advance the level of warehouse operations while still maintaining the high quality of service and flexibility to meet the requirements of the University. Requires excellent communication skills. *Must adhere to University Attendance Policy. *Requires a current valid Texas drivers license with an insurable driver's record. *Requires employment physical exam. *This position is designated as security sensitive (mod) and requires a criminal background check. Answers to the Director of Purchasing but must be able to work unsupervised. Must be self motivated and able to multitask, set priorities and have excellent organizational skills.
