Title
Financial Aid Specialist I
Description

This position is responsible for state, federal and local financial aid programs of the university under the direct supervision of the Financial Aid Director. Primary responsibility is to serve as loan coordinator to administer the processing of student loans programs to include Direct Subsidized, Unsubsidized, PLUS and private/alternative loan programs and reviews reports to determine loan discrepancies or financial aid overawards. Reviews Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeals and Consortium Agreements in addition to public speaking and considerable public contact in interpreting and explaining financial aid processes and eligibility.

Examples

Initiates computer processes to collect, submit and retrieve loan applications to/from the federal and/or state processors; oversees the processing of applications and subsequent disbursement of loan funds to the student accounts. Resolves any loan discrepancies which may prohibit the successful completion of the loan process. Determines and awards additional loan eligibility. Answers and initiates correspondence to advise applicants regarding their eligibility for financial aid and status of their loan application. Performs related duties as required.

Physical Condition
Experience

Two years of experience in general clerical work, preferably involving counseling experience.

Knowledge

Knowledge of financial aid policies and procedures with ability to present formal presentations. Use of computer and 10-key by touch. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to handle any situation in a sensitive, professional and confidential manner and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents and other employees.

Education

Completion of two years of college preferred.
