Title
Financial Aid Specialist I
Description

This position is responsible for state, federal and local financial aid programs of the university under the direct supervision of the Financial Aid Director. Work includes considerable public contact in interpreting and explaining policies and regulations regarding financial aid, counseling students concerning financial aid eligibility, and repayment of loans. Activities may include supervision of other office employees and the processing of important clerical work. This position is an advanced position for staff members with a high level of experience in a variety of financial aid processes. 

Examples

Initiates computer processes to collect, correct and process FAFSA applications; oversees the processing of applications and verification procedures. Resolves any FAFSA discrepancies which may prohibit the successful completion of the process. Answers and initiates correspondence to advise applicants regarding their eligibility for financial aid and status of their FAFSA applications. Performs related duties as required.

Physical Condition
Experience

Two years of experience in general clerical work, preferably involving counseling experience.

Knowledge

Knowledge of financial aid policies and procedures with ability to present formal presentations. Use of computer and 10-key by touch. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to handle any situation in a sensitive, professional and confidential manner and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents and other employees.

Education

Completion of two years of college preferred.

Requires attention to detail and ability to troubleshoot and resolve discrepancies.
