Title
Admissions Counselor - Dallas County Promise Outreach
Description

Assists the Director of Admissions with administrative duties to provide leadership in the implementation of policies, practices, and programs which enable the University to achieve enrollment goals. Represents the University and Dallas County Promise to the general public through scheduled presentations and assists with administrative duties in coordination of scheduling and hosting events sponsored by MSU Admissions Office and/or Dallas County Promise. Responsible for counseling prospective students, parents, educational administrators, and other interested persons to provide expert knowledge and advice on the college admissions process, financial aid process, transfer process as well as provide general enrollment and career development support. Collaborates with university colleagues and community partners to ensure successful recruitment and outreach efforts for transfer and direct from high school students. Works independently to manage office procedures. Reports to the MSU Director of Admissions with the Director of College Access and Success at Dallas County Promise providing work goals and guidelines for functions related to the mission of the program.

Examples

Counsels students and their parents on the college transition process. Regularly contacts and responds to assigned students by phone, email, online, and personally to address specific needs and troubleshoot problems. Assists with specialized tasks involving implementation of on-campus recruitment activities and special events. Assists with recruitment events as needed and manages an effective recruitment plan in assigned territory. Develops and maintains relationships with high schools, community colleges, and other community programs. Compiles reports and maintains up-to date information on student progress within assigned schools. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Condition

Must be able to drive independently and lift a minimum of 20 pounds.

Experience

One or more years experience in an education-focused position preferably in a college or university environment such as financial aid, school relations and/or college admissions.

Knowledge

Requires working knowledge of student financial aid processes and MSU admission policies and procedures, academic requirements, and residency policies, to include knowledge of admissions procedures for beginning freshmen, transfer students and re-enrolling MSU students. Proficiency in the use of personal computers and knowledge of commonly used computer software programs such as Word, Excel and Outlook.

Education

Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in higher education student personnel or related field is preferred and may be substituted for experience. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Must have strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to plan and coordinate complex, cross-related tasks. Must be a strong, positive representative of Midwestern State University. Must have a team orientation; be adaptable, flexible, and cooperative; have strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to work with diverse populations. *Must be able to work evenings and weekends and hours that may exceed the regular workweek. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *Requires a valid driver's license. *This position is designated as security sensitive (mod) and requires a criminal background check.
