Business Consultant
Description

The Business Consultant supports the mission of the SBDC- to promote growth, expansion, innovation, increased productivity, and improved management for SBDC clients. This is done by providing in-depth, confidential, no-cost business consulting, no- to low-cost training, as well as resource and referral services to small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs. Seeking an experienced business consultant with expertise in accounting and financial analysis. 

Examples

Consults with clients from all social-economic and educational backgrounds in areas related to accounting, finance, management, marketing, purchases, sales and for existing and start-up businesses. Assists in the preparation of business plans, financial projections, financial and breakeven analysis, and business evaluations. Concentration in accounting and financial analysis. Must relate well with and represent the SBDC professionally with stakeholders. Prepares and conducts business seminars and workshops tailored to audience needs. Assists in seeking funding options. Responsible for surveying SBDC clients and stakeholders. Oversees SBDC internship students. Involved in business organizations and networking groups. Other duties as assigned.

Physical Condition

Ability to travel to other counties and to professional development conferences. Ability to present seminars/workshops and attend meetings.

Experience

Small business consulting experience is highly preferred. Knowledge of accounting principles, ratio analysis, record keeping, financial statements a must. This position focus on accounting and financial analysis and matters relating to small business taxes. Certification as a QuickBooks Pro Advisor is best or will be required. This position teaches QB training sessions. Knowledge of surveying tools, growing and building stakeholder relationships, and funding research is very desirable. Previous experience with SBDCs and related database is preferred.

Knowledge

Knowledge of business accounting and finance as well as all phases of small business management. Must have ability to assess viability and potential of clients and be able to determine assistance required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office computer applications, emphasis on Excel. Knowledge of social media platforms a must.

Education

B.B.A., B.S., or Masters Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field is required.  Specialization in finance or accounting preferred. Small business consulting experience preferred. Certification as a QuickBooks Pro Advisor is required upon hiring if not already certified. Accredited Small Business Consultant required within 12 months. Trusted Advisor is required reading within 6 months.

Additional Requirements

Capable of discussing and explaining business topics to all educational backgrounds in a professional manner. Must be able to maintain confidentiality in working with clients. Must be able to work independently and as a team member. Travel is required. 40 hours of professional development training required annually.

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community.
