- Description
Plans, implements, and directs an inaugural comprehensive planned gifts program for University Advancement at Midwestern State University. Helps direct prospect coordination processes implementing strategies to steward existing and prospective donors in the context of the University's first comprehensive campaign. Develops and spearheads the growth and refinement of a marketing plan for planned giving; remains professionally current on state and federal taxes, gift and estate tax giving methods and legal aspects of charitable giving; and also under the direction of the VPUAPA provides leadership, supervision and project coordination of several areas in advancement services including to donor data and research, prospect management, and gift processing and accounting.
- Examples
Creates, establishes, and directs the gift planning program in the identification, cultivation, stewardship and solicitation of donors and planned giving prospects. Proactively collaborates with the Vice President of University Advancement and Public Affairs, the President, deans, private wealth managers in the community, and faculty/staff to identify planned giving prospects. Creates strategies to cultivate new planned and life income gifts. Creates, supervises, and directs prospect coordination processes; plans and implements strategies to steward prospective and existing planned giving donors in coordination with VPUAPA and other internal and external partners. Serves as liaison with the Office of the General Counsel and Board of Regents to insure state and university gift policies and compliance directives are followed and implemented for all potential and existing deferred gifts. Serves as liaison in legal matters involving potential and existing planned gifts. Develops and continues the growth and refinement of a marketing plan for planned giving that is integrated with MSU's overall fundraising model with strong and mutually beneficial ties with the community.
- Physical Condition
- Experience
Six or more years of higher education fundraising/advancement experience with a record of success in identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding planned gifts from individuals; record of management and direct supervision of staff and projects to include goal setting, performance management, leadership development and strategic planning. Experience with gift planning and major gifts in a university, preferably with a liberal arts emphasis.
- Knowledge
Should be professionally current on gift and estate tax giving methods, and the legal aspects of charitable giving techniques. Proven ability to work cooperatively with private wealth advisors, attorneys, CPA's, etc. .
- Education
Bachelor's degree required. Law or Master's degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. Extensive formal training & experience in charitable gift planning, estate planning, financial advising and some tax law.

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Excellent oral, written & interpersonal skills. Leadership and change management skills. Must be willing to work Non-traditional hours, including evening and weekend hours; travel required. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive (mod) and requires a criminal background check.*Designated as a Responsible Employee as outlined by Title IX.
