Title
Laboratory Technician, Engineering
Description

Responsible for operating and maintaining the laboratory in the engineering program. Reports to the Chair of the McCoy School of Engineering.

Examples

Prepares lab experiments for faculty. Runs the engineering lab in the presence of students. Cleans, arranges, and packages laboratory equipment. Maintains inventory of engineering equipment and orders parts. Ensures all equipment is operational upon delivery. Prepares and implements a preventive maintenance schedule in conjunction with the manufacturers on all large pieces of equipment. Responsible for maintenance and minor repair of laboratory equipment pertaining to the mechanical engineering and petroleum engineering certificate programs. Assists with student recruiting in to the Engineering program. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Condition

Must be able to stand for extended periods of time. Some lifting of heavy equipment may be required.

Experience

Requires experience with machine tools, reading blueprints, and equipment maintenance.

Knowledge

Knowledge of engineering laboratory procedures and equipment necessary as well as understanding of English and Metric unit systems. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.

Education

Associates Degree in engineering or related field.

Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to communicate and provide feedback in a professional and respectful manner. The ability to establish and maintain positive and supportive working relationships with students, faculty and supervising administrators and teachers; good organizational skills; and the ability to work with minimum supervision. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
