- Description
Oversees all aspects of the inventory, transportation, handling, and management of artworks under the purview of Wichita Falls Museum of Art at Midwestern State University including works from the permanent collection and works on loan for special exhibitions. Responsible for the coordination of and communication with the management of other collections on the MSU campus to ensure the stewardship and care of art objects across campus. Reports to the Museum Curator.
- Examples
Serves as exhibition project manager to ensure that each installation is completed safely, on time, and within budget. Facilitates and coordinates care and control of collections throughout MSU campus. Responsible for collection stewardship and record keeping, condition reporting, inventory, general handling and care of objects, including reporting of conservation related issues, insurance, packing and shipping and maintaining the collections management database. Manages the accessioning, identification, classification and cataloguing of objects in the Museum's collections. Develops policies and procedures relating to incoming artwork, security systems and security, disaster and emergency plans for artwork. Transports art between collections storage facilities and galleries and to/from off-site locations for exhibition, framing, photography, or conservation. Coordinates large campus art re-deployments. Performs other duties as assigned.
- Physical Condition
Ability to handle and lift large heavy artworks, pedestals and tools, as well as work on a ladder and lift. Ability to participate in set up and breakdown of events.
- Experience
A minimum of two years relevant professional experience in an art gallery or museum.
- Knowledge
Knowledge of legal matters pertaining to fine art. Thorough knowledge of museum registration concepts, principles, standards, practices and procedures, including art handling protocols. Proficient in the use of personal computers and related software applications for word processing, spreadsheet database, digital imaging, and online social media. Proficient with manual and power tools.
- Education
Bachelor's degree in Art History, Museum Studies, or closely related field.
- Additional Requirements
Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Required working knowledge of current museum best practices, including AAM Core Standards. Must be well-organized; have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Must have the ability to work well with a diverse audience and relate to college students, faculty, staff, and the public to satisfy requests. Ability to manage a variety of tasks in a Museum atmosphere. Ability to drive 15' box truck. Ability to be diplomatic and to supervise others. Must be able to work occasional nights and supervise weekends.
