Title
Director, Distance Education and Academic Outreach
Description

Responsible for the overall coordination and administration of the University's distance learning programs, compliance issues regarding State Authorization, Federal Regulation Chapter 34, 600.9(c). Responsible for coordinating mutually beneficial articulation agreements and memorandums of understanding (MOU) with community colleges, universities, and other potential academic partners. Prepares reports to applicable agencies concerning compliance with regulations and contractual agreements involving areas of responsibility. Supervises staff and manages the budgets of Distance Education and academic outreach. Reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Examples

Works closely with the Provost/VPAA and Deans involved with one or more aspects of distance learning. Oversees Distance Education technical support for faculty. Responsible for the University's compliance with Federal Regulation Chapter 34, 600.9(c), which requires approval to deliver online programs to students residing in other States. Responsible for meeting state requirements to legally offer postsecondary distance or correspondence education. Contacts area colleges, ISDs, hospitals, and other businesses for the purpose of facilitating transfer agreements, partnerships, and other mutually beneficial academic agreements. Assists in all areas of the university as assigned.

Physical Condition
Experience

Must have a strong teaching or academic background in higher education with extensive experience in training and development, as well as in applied technology in areas such as Internet methodology, and professional development. Strong communication skills and experience interacting with institutional leadership for the purpose of cultivating partnerships.

Knowledge

Must have advanced knowledge of the technology of distance education and be knowledgeable in standard office practices and procedures. Should also have a working knowledge in the use of personal computers and commonly used office software programs, such as Word, Excel and Outlook. Knowledge in training, development and Internet course management systems desired. Knowledge and experience developing partnerships desired.

Education

Doctorate and full-time university teaching experience, required.

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Must have effective written and oral communications skills; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Must have supervisory skills and be able to work on multiple projects at the same time. Must be able to plan and work within a fiscally responsible budget. * Must be available some nights and weekends. Must periodically serve on a standby or on-call basis. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
