Title
Student Center Maintenance Technician
Description

Performs routine maintenance, general repair, and minor construction work in the Clark Student Center (CSC). Work involves maintaining and repairing building, utility systems, and equipment. Work may also involve coordinating larger repairs requiring specific trade skills with Facilities Services personnel or contractors; ordering of supplies and materials; and maintaining preventive maintenance schedules and record keeping. Responsible for supervision of CSC custodial staff and oversight of set-up preparation, turnover, and dismantle for activities occurring in CSC facilities. Reports to the Custodial Superintendent.

Examples

Responsible for cleanliness, general maintenance, and repairs for Clark Student Center facilities. Orders/inventories maintenance and custodial supplies. Performs maintenance repairs and monitors condition of buildings; maintains records on work orders and projects. Inspects and may assist with the maintenance and repair of machinery, equipment, systems, or components. Responsible for ordering and maintaining CSC audio/visual equipment and assisting/instructing end-users in use of A/V equipment. Supervises custodial staff in routine facility cleaning. Oversees set-up preparations and teardowns for events occurring in CSC facilities. Moves heavy equipment/furniture. Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Condition

Moderate physical activity with occasional lifting of objects weighing over fifty pounds. Ability to stand for long periods of time, to climb stairs and ladders, to stoop, bend, and reach overhead. Sufficient strength, stamina, and mobility to perform a variety of manual tasks associated with duties. Must be able to work with and around cleaning products and chemicals.

Experience

Three or more years experience in building maintenance/custodial or related field such as plumbing, electrical, and other areas of general maintenance work. Experience in supervising custodial staff, handling audio/visual equipment, and facility event set-up desirable.

Knowledge

Knowledge of building maintenance methods, materials, tools, chemicals, and practices. Skill with the use and care of equipment and tools. Must have a general knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, flooring, painting, building materials, and hardware. Technical knowledge in the operation of audio/visual equipment. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Knowledge of MSDS standards related to cleaning supplies and chemicals. Basic personal computer skills in Microsoft applications.

Education

Graduation from high school, vocational school, or G.E.D.

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Ability to effectively plan, assign, and review work of subordinates. Must be able to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, students, and visitors. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. *Regular reliable attendance is required. * Requires occasional evening and weekend work. *Employment physical exam required. *A valid Texas driver's license is required. * Must be available some nights and weekends. Must periodically serve on a standby or on-call basis. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
