Title
Medical Director, Vinson Health Center
Description

Serves as the University Physician, with primary responsibility for the medical supervision, coordination, and oversight of the Vinson Health Center, providing direct, quality medical care to students with emphasis on preventive medicine, health promotion/education and ambulatory general medicine. Reports to the Vice President of Student Affairs.

Examples

Examines students as patients in the Vinson Health Center on a daily basis, prescribes medications and other treatments, makes referrals, and maintains accurate records. Develops, implements, and maintains quality and responsible programs which promote good health practices. Supervises Vinson Health Center medical staff and the Medical Office Manager. May be assigned to serve on university committees. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Condition
Experience

Three or more years of residency training in family practice, internal medicine, gynecology, or pediatrics; or four or more years experience in general medicine is desired. Previous experience as a practicing physician in a primary care setting with adolescents/young adults is desirable.

Knowledge

Must be knowledgeable in routine out-patient management to include minor surgery and minor orthopedics. Knowledge of college health centers and services preferred. Should also be knowledgeable in the use of personal computers and common office computer software programs such as Word, Excel and Outlook.

Education

Must be licensed to practice medicine in the State of Texas or attain licensure in the State of Texas following offer of employment. Emphasis is on preventive medicine, health promotion/education and ambulatory general medicine. Board certification/eligibility in family practice, internal medicine, gynecology, or pediatrics is preferred.

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Must be a student-oriented individual with strong interpersonal skills; a commitment to providing quality medical services; and the ability to establish good working relationships with other members of the health center staff and the University community at large. Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *Designated as a Responsible Employee as outlined by Title IX. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.

Serves as a member of the University’s Incident Command Structure during times of emergency or disaster and maintains appropriate National Incident Management System (NIMS) certifications/trainings.
