Title
Marketing and Public Information Assistant
Description

Performs written communications and graphic work assisting the Director of Marketing and Public Information in a wide variety of professional tasks. Provides assistance to on-campus personnel as well as off-campus visitors and media.

Examples

Promotes feature stories to local, state, and national publications. Works with faculty, staff, and students to identify, develop, and place articles that reflect positively on the university. Aids in production of brochures, posters, flyers and other promotional materials for various departments. Works with on-campus print shop or off-campus printing companies to obtain quality publications. As features editor of Sunwatcher magazine, writes feature articles, organizes photos and stories, and works with the advertising agency in layout design.

Physical Condition
Experience

Previous experience with media relations and print companies preferred. Should be able to provide a portfolio of stories/graphic work produced.

Knowledge

Must possess good editing and proofreading skills. Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Freehand.

Education

Bachelor's degree preferred in communications, journalism, English, or other related area.

Additional Requirements

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Ability to handle multiple tasks in an extremely busy office. Should possess good public relations skills, excellent verbal and written skills and the ability to communicate effectively. Must be able to solve complex problems and to work independently with little supervision. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
