- Description
Provides professional nursing care to patients as part of a cohesive total health care team in the university's clinic/outpatient care setting. Care is provided in accordance with physician's orders and established policies and procedures to include collecting and evaluating patient data, All work is preformed under normal clinic conditions, necessitating a high degree of contact with patients, families, faculty, staff, and clinic personnel. Reports to the Medical Director of Vinson Health Center.
- Examples
Responsible for maintaining a calm, clean, and functional patient care environment. Responsible for the appropriate safety, comfort, care, triage, and treatment of patients, and for the provision of direct patient care based on standard practices of the nursing profession. Performs assessment and management of patients; administers medications (oral/IM/SQ) and treatments to patients as ordered. Observes, reports, and documents patients' reactions to treatments and medications. Performs laboratory testing per written CLIA protocols; maintains accurate, legible patient records. Provides educational instruction as assigned. Assists support staff as needed in providing coverage for front office operations including, but not limited to, telephone response and appointment scheduling. May be assigned primary responsibility for clinic activity in the absence of the Medical Director and Medical Office Manager. Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Physical Condition
- Experience
Three or more years nursing experience, preferred. Additional experience in a hospital or clinic environment, highly desirable.
- Knowledge
Must have knowledge of current nursing practices and procedures and standard medical office operations. Must be extremely accurate in following written and oral directives and have the ability to maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPPA guidelines. Must be highly proficient in use of computers including Word and Excel and have the ability to learn the clinical scheduling program. Knowledge of college health clinic operations preferred.
- Education
*Requires current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Texas. Graduation from a recognized program of professional nursing. Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. *May be required to maintain current certification in CPR. Must maintain strict confidentiality. Must be adaptable, flexible, and cooperative and exhibit a high degree of professionalism. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
