Title
Program Coordinator, Student Support Services
Description

Works closely with the Student Support Services Director in overseeing the academic development of program participants. Supervises peer advisors and tutors. Assists in assessing needs of students served. Reports to the Director of Student Support Services.

Examples

Develop and implement workshops and seminars for eligible students. Provide personal, academic, and career counseling to students in the program. Document participating students' academic assistance and progress. Assist SSS students in developing individual education plans. Assist the Director in promoting and advertising the program and selecting and enrolling eligible students into the program. Heavy data entry. Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Condition

Must be physically able and have the ability to drive a university van.

Experience

Experience in counseling and mentoring with students transitioning from high school to college. Experience working with students with specialized health care needs and disabilities is desirable. Requires experience with word processing and data base computer programs. Should have knowledge of business and educational systems.

Knowledge

Must be knowledgeable in the use of personal computers as well as commonly used office software programs such as Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Knowledge of standard office practices and procedures, budgeting, recordkeeping, and personnel management. Working knowledge of college admissions and financial aid criteria, desirable. Must have knowledge of or be able to quickly learn requirements of the university's core curriculum. Knowledge with Banner and Blumen software systems preferred.

Education

Master's degree required.

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Bilingual in Spanish/English, preferred. Must have excellent organizational, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to prepare written documentation. Must be able to work a flexible schedule as needed, to include field trips. Must work well with a diverse population of college students. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *Requires a valid Texas driver's license. *This position is designated as security sensitive (mod) and requires a criminal background check.
