Title
Director, Student Support Services
Description

Responsible for administering all aspects of the Student Support Services program, to include planning and program development, budgeting, and supervising day-to-day office operations. Reports to the Associate Vice President for Undergraduate Education and Assessment.

Examples

Develop student needs policy and system of analysis for students. Supervise needs assessment and document program services for each student. Document student eligibility for program services; participate in program activities and academic performance according to Department of Education regulations. Provide special assistance and resources to handicapped, ESL and students needing counseling. Administer orientation and in-service staff training. Monitor, document, publicize, and evaluate project activities including annual performance reporting. Apply for continuing grant funding annually and assist in writing grants to secure continuing funding of the project.

Physical Condition

Must be physically capable and have the ability to drive a university van.

Experience

Minimum of three years experience in higher education or TRIO in the areas of career development, academic success, and/or personal development. At least one year experience working with low-income and/or academically disadvantaged or disabled populations, preferred. Experience in design and implementation of programs for disadvantaged students, preferred.

Knowledge

Requires knowledge and ability in the use of personal computers as well as commonly used office software programs such as Word, Excel, Access and Outlook. Must have knowledge of standard office practices and procedures, budgeting, recordkeeping, and personnel management. A working knowledge of college selection, admissions and financial aid procedures is required. Requires knowledge of or ability to quickly learn requirements of the university's core curriculum.

Education

Master's degree required with concentrations in areas of education, counseling, developmental studies, or other related degree.

Additional Requirements

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Must be well organized and able to prepare written documentation. Must have excellent organizational, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to work a flexible schedule as needed, to include field trips. Must work well with a diverse population of college students. *Regular reliable attendance is required. * Requires a valid Texas driver's license. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
