- Academic Counselor Coordinator
- Description
The Academic Advisor Coordinator supervises, manages, and coordinates the activities of the College Advising Center, internship programs and/or lab, which are intended to help students plan their academic study and maximize their academic potential. Counsels undergraduate students in the University's core curriculum and relevant degree program requirements. May determine students' eligibility for enrolling in upper-division courses in the College. Verifies students eligibility for graduation. May coordinate the student internship program.
- Examples
Works with students to provide information regarding degree programs, educational options, and requirements. Works with and supervises College Advising Center staff to ensure that advising, recruiting, and student retention programs are successful. Maintains complete and accurate confidential student records. Maintains data related to accreditation. May recruit employers for student internship program, communicate with such employers, and coordinate placement of students with employers. May oversee student assistants working in the lab or advising center. Performs other duties as assigned.

- Experience
Minimum of two years previous experience in academic advising. Must be experienced in the use of computer software applications (Microsoft Office preferred). Experience with MSU student software system is helpful.
- Knowledge
Must have excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task. Must have knowledge of or be able to quickly learn the University's core curriculum and additional various requirements of academic programs, and the MSU Student Data System.
- Education
Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.
- Additional Requirements
Must have a demonstrated interest in working with and assisting students and be able to work effectively with a heavy volume of student traffic. Must be able to keep complete, accurate, and confidential records. Must have the ability to learn, interpret and apply detailed academic requirements to the needs of individual students. Participate in training workshops and other professional activities. Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
