- Description
Responsible for providing specialized guidance to international students regarding immigration documents, 1-20, DS-2019. Consults with students about OPT and CPT, maintains SEVIS database via daily reports and updates, including alerts and compliance. In addition, assists with various items related to MSU’s IELI program. Reports to the Associate Director of ISS and IELI.
- Examples
Works with admitted international students on issuing form I-20. Advises international students on applicable laws and taxes, assists with periodic orientations and meetings on immigration requirements. Corresponds with prospective students and assists in the international recruiting process. Assists in counseling students on academic requirements, financial planning, and legal compliance. Assists with organizing orientations. Acts as liaison with University Housing and Residence Life for international students. Responsible for correspondence with International students accepted into the university and IELI program. Supports the Associate Director in the registration, testing, and placement of IELI students and the scheduling of classes, including classroom assignments. Must be able to be confirmed by the Department of Homeland Security to be authorized in the use of the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) system.
- Physical Condition
Should be able to drive students to various government offices as needed.
- Experience
Must have experience in working with a diverse group, assisting with adjustment issues, and respecting different cultures and their beliefs.
- Knowledge
Must have knowledge of student immigration laws and procedures, or be willing to learn. Knowledge of international educational systems is also preferred. Prior knowledge of the SEVIS experience and previous experience as a DSO preferred but not required. Advanced skills in the use of software systems, computer programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook, office practices and procedures and personnel management. Must be willing and able to work with students from all regions of the world. Knowledge of social media marketing preferred. Prefer knowledge of Banner software.
- Education
Bachelor's degree required. Prior international education experience preferred.
- Additional Requirements
Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Must be well organized and able to effectively communicate with one-on-one and with large groups. Must be able to work discreetly with students on sensitive and confidential issues. *Regular reliable attendance is required. * Requires a valid Texas driver's license. Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act. * Must be available some nights and weekends. Must periodically serve on a standby or on-call basis. This position is designated as security sensitive (mod) and requires a criminal background check.
