Title
Maintenance Technician
Description

Performs routine maintenance, repair, and minor construction work for Facilities Services. Work involves maintaining and repairing buildings, utility systems, and equipment. Work may also involve coordinating larger repairs and repairs requiring specific trade skills with Facilities Services personnel; ordering of supplies and materials; and maintaining preventive maintenance schedules and record keeping.  

Examples

Performs maintenance and repair work such as plumbing, welding, mechanical, refrigeration, ventilation, or heating. Maintains records on work orders and projects. May assist with the maintenance and repair of machinery, equipment, systems, or components. May construct and repair equipment. May perform inspections of operating machinery, equipment and systems. Performs other maintenance related duties as directed. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Central Plant. 

Physical Condition

Moderately heavy physical activity with occasional lifting of objects weighing over fifty pounds. Must have sufficient strength and stamina to perform a variety of manual tasks associated with duties. Ability to work from ladders and in close/tight spaces, including attics and under buildings.

Experience

Should have experience in plumbing, electrical, and other areas of general maintenance work.

Knowledge

Knowledge of building maintenance methods, materials, tools and practices. Skill with the use and care of power equipment and tools. Must have a general knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, building materials, and hardware. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.

Education

Graduation from high school, vocational school, or G.E.D.

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Must be able to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and departments. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Must be willing to work hours as needed outside of regular work hours.  *Regular reliable attendance is required. *Employment physical exam required. *A valid Texas driver's license is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Low) and requires a criminal background check.
