The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs is the chief academic officer of the University and has responsibility for the University's academic affairs. The Provost collaborates with the President and Deans in setting overall academic priorities for the University and allocates funds to carry these priorities forward. Reporting to the President, the Provost provides leadership to all academic areas so they carry the mission and values of the institution. The Provost is an advocate for all academic programs and ensures consistent quality standards in curriculum and programs that meet the needs of students. The Provost oversees the academic integrity of the university and provides leadership and strategic planning; budgeting; curriculum; and program development. The Provost assures compliance with various accreditation agencies as well as state accreditation and regulation. The Provost will be a champion for student access and success, with an emphasis on student enrollment and retention.
The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs supervises and coordinates the operation of six academic colleges and the graduate school, Moffett Library, Academic Outreach and Distance Education, the Redwine Honors Program, the Office of Sponsored Programs and Research, the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, the Wichita Falls Museum of Art at Midwestern State University, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges Liaison and Reporting, and the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Oversees continuous study of the curricula; revision and development of new programs of study, including distance learning; the encouragement of research; the development of class schedules; the maintenance of library services; the recruitment and evaluation of instructional personnel; and provision of community service through the resources of the academic programs. Recommends academic policies and procedures to the President. Presides over meetings of the Academic Council.
Collaborates with the deans and department heads in preparing an annual budget recommendation for the President. Prepares recommendations on instructional appointments, reappointments, and dismissals.

Requires an exemplary record of leadership and shared governance. Must have extensive and substantial experience in academic administration with a heavy emphasis on budgeting, staffing, curriculum development, strategic planning, accreditation, research, and grievance resolution.
- Knowledge
Demands knowledge of budgeting, funding, assessment, and strategic planning; information technology as it relates to research and classroom instruction; standard office practices and procedures and in the use of personal computers and commonly used office software programs; and a working knowledge of state legislative and education-agency processes.
- Education
Terminal degree in an academic discipline appropriate for Midwestern State University and have an academic record that warrants appointment to full professor. A strong tie to the liberal arts is preferred.

Must have proven leadership and managerial skills and be able to communicate effectively with a variety of constituencies. Must possess an open, collegial, and collaborative management style with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
Serves as a member of the University’s Incident Command Structure during times of emergency or disaster and maintains appropriate National Incident Management System certifications/trainings.
