Title
Assistant Registrar
Description

Reports to the University Registrar and helps to ensure the smooth running of the Office of the Registrar. Performs degree audits on Master's Degree candidates. Assists with the production of the MSU Schedule of Classes and catalogs. Coordinates scheduling of extended education courses with the Office of Extended Education, BAAS Office, and the Colleges. Assists with registration for both on and off campus students. Assists with room scheduling and maintenance of room inventory information. May complete surveys or special projects as assigned. Trains and assists departments in entering and updating course prerequisites in student information system.

Examples

Supervises office staff in the absence of the Registrar and Associate Registrar. Checks degree requirements for Master's Degree candidates. Assists with production of undergraduate and graduate catalogs. Works with the Colleges in schedule entry and format information into the Schedule of Classes. Enters extended education courses into the student information system as requested by the departments and Colleges and approved by the Office of Extended Education. Assists Registrar as needed at special events such as Commencement, Imagine Graduation, orientation, registration, Spirit Days, and College Preview Day. May assist with training of office staff.

Physical Condition

Must be physically able to carry files to and from a records vault.

Experience

Experience in Registrar's Office or similar position on another college campus desirable. Should also be experienced in the use of PCs, Microsoft Word, Excel, on-line student information systems and other appropriate office equipment.

Knowledge

A good working knowledge of State of Texas testing requirements is desired as well as a good understanding of university policies, regulations, and degree requirements.

Education

Bachelor's degree required.

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Must have the ability to work well with people, to include interacting with faculty and administrators as well as students. Must be able to establish and maintain good working relationshhips with office staff in a supervisory capacity. Must be able to type 60 WPM and to use PCs for word processing and student information management. Must have strong public relations skills in dealing with the public and students. Must have good written and verbal communication skills and be able to speak in front of audiences of students, parents, faculty, and staff. Must be able to organize and prioritize workloads and perform work under stressful conditions. Must be able to handle multiple tasks. Occasional travel and night/weekend work required. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *Designated as a Responsible Employee as outlined by Title IX. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
