Title
Registrar
Description

Oversees the management of policies, processes, and operations of the Registrar’s Office and provides leadership, innovation, vision, and accountability for the management of all records, registration policies, and services that support student success. Provides oversight for integrity and accuracy of student academic record-keeping and transcript production in compliance with university academic policies and standards.  Responsible for the conformity of educational record use, dissemination, and privacy of student information to university policies and legal requirements, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other applicable laws and regulations, as well as, those of other regulatory agencies.  Establishes a Registrar's Office that provides excellent service, manages efficient use of resources, and reflects industry best practices in records management and the effective use of technology. Reports to the Vice President for Enrollment Management.

Examples

Responsible for the registration of students, maintenance of student records, enforcement of graduation policies, certification of athletes, TSI compliance, and VA certification. Coordinates publication of class schedules and graduate and undergraduate catalogs. Organizes student participation in commencement and maintains official course inventory. Produces ad hoc and standing reports as required by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) and ensures data integrity for said reports. Serves as member of enrollment management council, and Ex-Officio member of Academic and Graduate Councils. Works with college deans on the publication of schedules, develops academic calendar, organizes registration schedule for students. Collects catalog data from colleges and edits catalog copy. Organizes registration procedures and collects student data for state reporting; supervises, trains, evaluates and develops office staff and student assistants; works with Information Systems to develop and prioritize programming requests. Promotes and maintains effective relationships with faculty, staff, and academic partners across campus and other institutions, collaborating on issues relating to curriculum, university policies, and other areas of Registrar responsibilities.  Provides strategic input and develops recommendations for the implementation of related technology applications in support of enhanced and more efficient services for students, faculty and staff.  Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Condition
Experience

Three to five years experience in records and/or admissions with experience at a public institution preferred. Three to five years experience in management and supervision of a large staff as well as experience in developing and administering a budget.

Knowledge

Must have a strong and thorough understanding of best practices in student registration and records as well as a strong understanding of the role of the Registrar in strategic enrollment management and student success.  Must have knowledge of computerized student information systems; general office practices and procedures; budgeting; and the use of commonly used word processing and spread sheet office software, such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.  Must have a demonstrated success in leading, planning, implementing and adapting to change and be fluent in understanding and effective use of information technology.

Requires the ability to work and communicate well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Must have good management, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills and must be service oriented. Must be detail-oriented  and compliance-focused with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Some travel required. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive (high) and requires a criminal background check.
