- Description
Receives and disburses cash, checks and currency, keeping records involved in performing various financial transactions. Accounts for all receipts and deposits. Work also includes routine clerical support tasks related to the teller functions. This position reports to the Director, Student Business Services.
- Examples
Receives checks, cash, and credit cards in payment of fees or charges. Verifies amounts and endorsements and issues receipts. Maintains and accounts for cash drawer and daily transactions, reconciles daily cash drawer and resolves discrepancies; reports discrepancies. Performs data entry of accounting documents. Reconciles student accounts upon request. Mails daily accounts payable checks to vendors and student refunds. Assists students with selection of payment plan options. Conducts a variety of customer service tasks which includes assisting students with account balances and other information. Answers questions and provides information to students, staff and faculty about tuition and fees, procedures, policies, or related issues. Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Physical Condition
Needs to be able to sit for long periods of time.
- Experience
Requires one year or more teller/cashier experience as well as general office work experience with emphasis on computer related skills and record-keeping.
- Knowledge
A working knowledge of methods of handling money and negotiable items. Skill in meeting and assisting the public. Ability to perform numerical detail work and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Education
High School Graduate or equivalent required. Some accounting courses preferred.

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Requires excellent interpersonal and customer service skills to be a positive representative for MSU to a diverse population. Must have strong written and oral communication skills. Must be able to plan and manage tasks, understand and follow detailed instructions, and make independent decisions. Strict confidentiality must be maintained. Regular reliable attendance is required. This position is designated as security sensitive (mod) and requires a criminal background check.
