Title
Assistant Director, Recreational Sports and Wellness Center
Description

Responsible to the Director of Recreational Sports and Wellness Center for the organization and management of the Recreational Sports program at MSU Texas. Assists with the daily operation and programming of the Bruce and Graciela Redwine Student Wellness Center. Serves as the University's Youth Protection Program Coordinator. Reports to the Director of Recreational Sports and Wellness Center.

Examples

Promotes student participation in Recreational Sports activities and the Wellness Center. Creates and distributes marketing materials to provide information about Recreational Sports and Wellness Center programs and services. Plans and creates various types of Recreational Sports tournaments and league formats using software for event scheduling and bracket/tournament building. Conducts competitions in a wide variety of sports and recreational activities. Conducts hiring, training, and supervision of officials and other student personnel for Recreational Sports activities. Assists in the hiring, training, and supervision of Wellness Center personnel, including student assistants and support staff. Assists with daily operations of the Wellness Center aquatics area and supervision of lifeguards. Assists with the procurement, inventory, and maintenance of athletic equipment and supplies for Recreational Sports and Wellness Center. Works with the Director of Recreational Sports and Wellness Center to ensure fields and facilities are properly maintained, safe, and functional for program utilization. Constantly makes a strong effort to proactively ensure the safety and health of Recreational Sports and Wellness Center participants is accounted for. Conducts health and fitness assessments for students, employees, alumni, and other Wellness Center members to enhance personal fitness, health, and wellness. Assists the Director with the coordination of the University's summer camp program and related compliance efforts. Educates university employees, campus organizations, and third party groups who sponsor/host events or visits on campus involving minors regarding youth protection policies and regulations. Creates procedures to ensure groups are in compliance with youth protection policies and regulations prior to hosting or working with minors on campus. Maintains a youth protection database to assist in monitoring and tracking of people, programs, and events involving minors on campus. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Condition

Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Moderate physical activity with occasional lifting of objects weighing over fifty pounds. Ability to stand for long periods of time, to climb stairs, to stoop, bend, and reach overhead. Sufficient strength, stamina, and mobility to perform a variety of manual tasks associated with duties.

Experience

Experience in administering and participating in a wide variety of sport and recreational activities. Experience in facility operations, program promotion and marketing, and employee management. Experience in conducting fitness-related assessments with appropriate referral, preferred.

Knowledge

Must be knowledgeable of a wide variety of sports, recreational activities, aquatic activities, and wellness programs applicable for university students and employees. Must be knowledgeable in weight training, exercise, fitness, nutrition, and the appropriate use of different types of fitness equipment and weight machines. Must have knowledge of different formats and scheduling options for sports and recreational activities, and how to create such schedules using computer-based software. .

Education

Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, Sport Administration, or a related field preferred.

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Must be willing to work evenings and weekends and flexible/extended hours with little supervision. Must have the sensitivity and skill to create and maintain positive working relationships with a diverse community of students and employees. Must possess excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Must have the ability to work under pressure and uneven time constraints. Must be creative, dependable, organized, enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and demonstrate the ability to make decisions and manage a variety of tasks simultaneously. Regular, reliable attendance is required. Must periodically serve on a standby or on-call basis. Serves as a Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act. Designated as a Responsible Employee as outlined by Title IX. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
