- Description
Performs advanced professional accounting work. Work involves responsibility for setting up and maintaining controls and records of materials, personnel, and financial transactions. Supervises a small group of clerical and accounting workers classifying, posting, and balancing financial records and operating reports. Works under the general supervision of a technical or administrative supervisor with considerable latitude for technical judgment in accomplishment of most phases of work. Reports to the Controller.
- Examples
Supervises and assists with classifying, coding, posting, and balancing of financial accounting documents and records. Prepares trial balances, financial statements, and special exhibits schedules. Checks accounting operations in progress and reviews and audits completed financial records for accuracy and conformance with legal and departmental procedures and regulations. Assists subordinate personnel in posting or reporting complex accounting transactions. May devise, develop, and install new accounting or control systems. Performs related work as assigned.

- Experience
Requires two or more years responsible experience in bookkeeping, accounting, and business management with some supervisory responsibility. Background in fund accounting and prior State of Texas higher education experience is desirable.
- Knowledge
Considerable knowledge of acceptable accounting procedures, office practices, and state laws governing maintenance of accounting records. Ability to supervise accounting personnel and interpret and apply accounting theory to difficult or complex transactions.
- Education
Bachelor's degree from an accredited senior college with major courses in accounting and business management preferred. May substitute at least four years equivalent work experience.

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Ability to relate to complex statewide accounting systems through Statewide Network.
