Title
Director, Tutoring and Academic Support Programs
Description

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Undergraduate Education and Assessment, the Director of Tutoring and Academic Support Programs oversees the Tutoring Center, Writing Center, First-year Seminars, and other programming designed to help students acclimate to the intellectual demands and rigor of higher education. Responsible for engaging in research regarding best practices in tutoring and teaching, and working with university personnel to deliver individualized and classroom curricula.

Examples

Recruits, trains, and oversees tutors for the Tutoring Center and Writing Center; directs curriculum development of first-year seminar courses and monitors faculty training/professional development; collaborates with personnel in Academic Affairs and Student Affairs to deliver timely and suitable academic support. Maintains appropriate records, evaluates all programs annually, and maintains the budget

Physical Condition
Experience

Minimum of three years college teaching experience; tutoring experience; experience with supervisory, budget oversight, and management responsibilities, preferably at a four-year institution of higher education. Experience providing curriculum development and training.

Knowledge

Must have knowledge of current research in the areas of peer tutoring and first-year experience, as well as a solid foundation of pedagogical best practices.

Education

Graduate degree required; degrees must include background in education, as well as the liberal arts and sciences.

Additional Requirements

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to collaborate effectively with a diverse campus community. Must demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to take initiative. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
