Title
Accounting Assistant II
Description

Performs complex clerical and advanced bookkeeping work in accounting and fiscal records keeping. Work involves maintenance of student billings and receivables, entering, processing, tracking, and analyzing accounts payable, posting journal vouchers and processing student accounts receivable adjustment documents. Works individually or in a group under the supervision of the University Cashier. Performs routine work independently according to standard bookkeeping procedures.

Examples

Duties will vary by assigned area, but may include responsibility for a variety of bookkeeping tasks. Maintain student accounts, assist students and eligible third party providers with tuition and fee inquiries/estimates. Process student billings and maintain external billing accounts. Reconcile and process student refunds. Assist cashiers with windows and answer telephones when necessary. Reconcile and process daily bank deposits and web payments.

Physical Condition
Experience

Two or more years of experience in general office work with emphasis on bookkeeping and accounting operation.

Knowledge

Working knowledge of accepted bookkeeping theories, practices, fundamental accounting policies and procedures. Must be skilled in the use of personal computers including Microsoft applications, calculator by touch, and other general office equipment. Ability to perform detail work with speed and accuracy. Process paperwork in a neat, systematic, and legible manner. Ability to understand and carry out complicated oral and written instructions.

Education

Graduation high school or equivalent required. Some college level courses preferred, but not required.

Additional Requirements

Excellent interpersonal skills and a courteous and caring customer service attitude are required. Must have strong written and oral communication skills and be a positive representative for MSU.. Must understand effective office procedures, be able to plan and manage tasks, understand and follow complex detailed instructions, and make independent decisions. Strict confidentiality must be maintained. Proficient in the use of all office equipment . Must be able to work independently.
