- Description
Supports the mission of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) to promote growth, expansion, innovation, increased productivity and improved management for small business clients. Primarily works with established businesses/clients so must possess in-depth understanding of accounting procedures, financial statements and ratios. Reports to the Director of SBDC.
- Examples
Counsels clients from all social-economic and educational backgrounds in areas related to accounting, finance, purchases and sales, importing and exporting, existing & start-up businesses. Assists in the preparation of business plans, financial projections, financial & breakeven analysis, and business evaluations. Prepares and conducts business seminars and workshops. Involved in business organizations and networking groups.
- Physical Condition
Ability to travel to other counties and to professional development conferences. Ability to present seminars/workshops and attend meetings.
- Experience
Accounting/finance background and experience required. Prior experience in small business ownership or management, highly desirable. Knowledge of accounting principles, record keeping, financial statements and ratios a must. Experience in an SBDC center, desirable..
- Knowledge
Knowledge of business accounting and finance as well as of all phases of small business management. Must have ability to assess viability and potential of clients and be able to determine assistance required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office computer applications and Quick Books software.
- Education
Bachelor's degree required.
- Additional Requirements
Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, both with individuals and with groups. Capable of discussing and explaining business topics to all educational backgrounds in a professional manner. Must be able to maintain confidentiality in working with clients. Must be able to work independently and as a team member. Some travel required. 40 hours of professional development training required annually. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
