- Description
Works closely with the University Librarian on all matters concerning the library. Assists with personnel matters, including interviewing prospective employees, motivating and evaluating staff, overseeing vacation and sick leave policies, and handling related problems. Assists in the preparation of the annual budget, serves on University committees as required by the President. Works with the University Librarian and other staff members in formulating basic procedures, policies and systems for the daily operation of the library. Works with the Collection Development Librarian in purchasing materials for the library, especially rare and unusual materials. Oversees the records management functions of the library
- Examples
Assumes the duties of the University Librarian in her absence. Helps formulate the annual budget with the University Librarian, participates in all interviewing of library staff, supervises the day to day operations of the library in order to keep it running efficiently and effectively. Works closely with the Collection Development Librarian and Acquisitions staff to assure that orders, receipts, and payments are handled in a timely and efficient manner. Monitors financial reports relating to materials acquisitions. Checks cataloging quality. Serves as a research partner for the College of Liberal Arts.

- Experience
A minimum of five years in the field of professional librarianship, preferably in an academic library with demonstrated levels of positions of a supervisory or managerial level.
- Knowledge
Must be computer literate, possess excellent oral/written communication skills, and good organizational skills. Should have the ability to motivate employees, have some counseling skills, and have the ability to work with a diverse group of people. Should be very service-oriented.
- Education
A Master's degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA accredited program. A graduate degree in a subject area is highly desirable.
- Additional Requirements
Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Requires excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to supervise library staff and student employees. Must have computer skills involving a variety of software applications. Knowledgeable in all types of office equipment operations and maintenance. Some physical effort required to lift, carry and shelve books. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
