Title
Accounting Assistant I
Description

Performs clerical and advanced bookkeeping work in accounting and fiscal records keeping.  Duties include processing travel vouchers and entering direct payment vouchers (back up), maintenance of Touchnet Marketplace stores, updating ICompel TV information. Assists as backup Teller and answers telephones as necessary.   Works individually or in a group under the supervision of the Director, Student Business Services.

Examples

Processes travel vouchers and travel encumbrance entries.  Reconciles travel advance clearing account and prepares monthly reconciliations.  Assists departments with travel related inquiries.  Updates and maintains Business Office television monitors, Touchnet Marketplace, and website.  Assists with student rate table fee testing. Represents the Business Office at new student orientations.  Prepares handouts and provides information related to Business Office payment plans and deadlines. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Condition

Needs to be able to sit for long periods of time.

Experience

Requires one or more years of experience in general office work with emphasis on bookkeeping and accounting responsibilities.

Knowledge

A working knowledge of accepted bookkeeping theories, practices, fundamental accounting policies and procedures. Ability to perform numerical detail work and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Specific knowledge of state travel policies and procedures preferred.  Must be skilled in the use of personal computers including Microsoft applications, calculator by touch, and other general office equipment.

Education

High School Graduate or equivalent required.  Some accounting or bookkeeping courses preferred.

Requires excellent interpersonal and customer service skills to be a positive representative for MSU to a diverse population.  Must have strong written and oral communication skills.  Must be able to plan and manage tasks, understand and follow detailed instructions, and make independent decisions.  Strict confidentiality must be maintained.  Regular reliable attendance is required. This position is designated as security sensitive (mod) and requires a criminal background check.
