Description

Reporting to the Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Deans of the six University colleges and the Dean of the Graduate School are responsible for administering and providing leadership for the programs within their respective areas. They also teach up to three courses per year.

Examples

Deans evaluate and counsel individual faculty members and students; plan and administer budgets; work with chairs and faculty to develop course curricula; serve on the Academic Council and other University councils and committee; recruit and assist in the selection of new faculty members; assist in strategic planning and facilities improvements; assist in the development of recruiting plans for their respective programs; and prepare reports as needed, to include data on student retention, graduation rates, etc.

Physical Condition
Experience

Must have extensive teaching experience and a demonstrated record of scholarly or creative activity as well as relevant experience in academic administration and fiscal management.

Knowledge

Must have knowledge of trends and issues in higher education. Should also be knowledgeable in standard office practices and procedures as well as in the use of personal computers and commonly used office software programs.

Education

Must have a terminal degree in a discipline within his or her respective college and a record of academic achievement that would warrant appointment as a full Professor.

Must have strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; a commitment to diversity; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty. Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act. *Designated as a Responsible Employee as outlined by Title IX. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
