Title
Assistant Sports Information Director/Broadcasts
Description

Serves as the primary "Voice of the Mustangs." Responsible for delivering and executing broadcast formats incorporating commercial spots, drops and mentions, public service announcements, promotional information and features. In addition to streaming game broadcasts, executes content and information based weekly podcast series incorporating administration, coaches, and student-athletes for each of MSU's 13 athletic programs. Works with Athletic Communications staff to produce collateral for content-based delivery for broadcasts, social media, and web site usage. Produces editorial content for the athletic website. Responsible for serving as the primary media contact for assigned sports. Assists in creating social media content. Responsible for website maintenance to include updates on student-athlete biographical information and online record books. Responsible for write game recaps, producing score graphics, and nominating student-athletes for weekly honors. Responsible for producing specific content in advance of weekly events to include broadcast links, tracking rankings and milestones for teams and individual student-athletes. Responsible for writing releases for in-season and postseason honors as well as weekly regional and national rankings updates. Reports to the Assistant Director of Athletes for Athletic Communications.

Examples

Attends all athletic events, as feasible. Serves as primary broadcast talent to include video and audio streaming for Midwestern State Athletics home events and selected football and basketball road games. Coordinates with coaches and student-athletes to produce weekly coaches shows scheduled and available weekly via podcast. Establishes and maintains good working relationships with appropriate local, state and national media representatives. Prepares reports required by conference or national athletic associations of which the university may be a member. Designs and produces digital game programs. Handles external and internal requests for interviews, photographs, information, etc. Prepares sports releases for web distribution and to the media. Maintains distribution lists for all media outlets. May attend local, regional, conference and national meetings as required by the department. Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Condition

Must be able to lift and move equipment. Work in an office setting for hours at a time. Must have the ability to climb stairs in order to gain access to bleachers, press boxes, etc.

Experience

A minimum of two years of experience in sports information, media relations, print or electronic journalism, and/or sports reporting. Heavy emphasis on writing skills and experience. Experience with still photography and videography helpful.

Knowledge

Heavy emphasis on writing and oral communication skills. Working knowledge of publication design and computerized statistical compilation. Must possess excellent organizational, problem-solving, and management skills. PC skills required, preferably with sports-statistic and/or desktop publishing software. Must be able to type proficiently.

Education

Bachelor's degree required, preferable in sports management, mass communications or journalism or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Requirements

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Excellent writing skills with the ability to work under pressure and strict deadlines. Excellent oral communications and public relations skills. Attention to detail is required. * Must be able to work nights and weekends, as needed. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act. *This position is considered security sensitive (mod) and requires a criminal background check.
