Title
Head Athletic Trainer
Description

Reports to the Director of Athletics. Serves as the athletic trainer for MSU's nine intercollegiate athletic programs. Manages day to day training room operations. Develops and conducts athletic training programs to prevent, treat and rehabilitate injuries to the athletes at MSU. Travels with assigned teams. Schedules the Athletic Training Staff to ensure that all athletes at MSU have athletic training coverage. Arranges appointments for athletes with physicians, sets up pre-participation physicals. Serves as the clinical supervisor for the athletic training education program. Teaches classes as assigned by the Chair of the Kinesiology Department. Serves as a liaison between the athlete, coaches and physicians. Supervises one full time assistant athletic trainer, three graduate assistant athletic trainers, and a staff of between 10-15 athletic training students.

Examples

Administers first aid, taping, bracing, therapeutic modalities, and implements various exercise programs for the athletes at MSU. Maintains medical records and injury logs. Collects all the student athletes personal insurance information. Files all medical insurance claims in a timely manner. Develops list of needed supplies and order the supplies.

Physical Condition
Experience

A minimum of three years of experience at the college or university level, including teaching and supervision of Athletic Training Students.

Knowledge

Must have advanced knowledge of accepted training practices and techniques and be familiar with both state and national laws regulating athletic training as well as the athletic trainers code of ethics.

Education

Master's Degree in Athletic Training or related field.

Additional Requirements

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. NATABOC certification and Texas Department of Health athletic trainer license required. Current CPR and First Aid Certification. Requires good oral and written communication skills. Must be able to work nights and weekends. Some heavy lifting required. *Regular reliable attendance is required. Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
