Title
Director of System and Governmental Relations
Description

The Director of System and Governmental Relations (DSGR) reports directly to the president of Midwestern State University and is a member of the president’s leadership team. This individual provides the president with high-quality work and deliverables consistent with the president’s values and goals and contributes to advancing the university’s mission and strategic priorities. This individual serves as the MSU Texas liaison with the Texas Tech University (TTU) System, works closely with the Chancellor’s Office, and coordinates the planning, preparation, and delivery of agenda items and materials for TTU System Board of Regents meetings. Additionally, in coordination with the TTU System Vice Chancellor of Governmental Relations, this individual supports federal and state government initiatives for MSU Texas. The DSGR serves at the discretion of and has responsibilities and authority delegated by the president.

Examples

Serves as the liaison to public officials and their staff on behalf of the university. Works with the TTU System executive leadership as liaison to MSU Texas and coordinates planning and submission of materials to the Board of Regents.  Participates with the president and other senior officers in institutional planning, policy development, and problem resolution.  Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Physical Condition

Must be able to travel extensively.

Experience

Experience in a high-level administrative role with extensive interaction with senior leaders in an academic setting. Experience using critical thinking to balance policy and organizational practices to advance projects.   

Knowledge

Knowledge of State of Texas or national regulatory requirements regarding higher education.  

Education

This position requires a relevant undergraduate degree and five years of related professional experienced. Advanced or master’s degree in a relevant field of study and two years progressively responsible experience may be substituted for five years of experience.Master's degree preferred.

Must possess outstanding people skills.  Must be detail-oriented with exceptional decision-making abilities and be able to work in a fast-paced environment.  Must have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively.  A high level of diplomacy and confidentiality is required, as well as advanced verbal and written communication skills.  Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Works under general supervision with broad latitude for initiative and independent judgment. Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. *Regular reliable attendance is required.  *Designated as a Responsible Employee as outlined by Title IX. *This position is designated as security sensitive (high) and requires a criminal background check.
