Choosing your Room and Roommate

Choosing your Room and Roommate:

Information about your Username and Password to log into the MyResCenter housing portal was emailed to your MSU Texas student email upon being accepted into the university. If you cannot find that information or need assistants logging in, please contact the Office of Residence Life and Housing during business hours, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm at 940-397-4217 or housing@msutexas.edu

Step 2: Click on the Room Selection link under the Fall 2024 heading

Please note that the link will not appear until your designated room selection date (see important dates above).

Step 3: Choose your roommate

When applying for housing, you have the ability to request a specific student to be your roommate. The name of this mutually requested roommate will appear on the first page. Check the box if you still wish to live with this individual.

Remember that roommate requests must be mutual and will not appear unless the other student has selected you as well.

If you discover a potential roommate in the time leading up to Fall, we recommend that both you and your desired roommate complete the Room Change Request form on Mustangs Link. These requests will be approved or denied on a first come first serve basis if spaces are available. Contact the Residence Life and Housing office for more information or check out the Room Change Request Policy webpage for information and detailed instructions.

Step 4: Select your room
  • Select the building from the drop down box
  • Select a room type (see list below for the residence hall codes)
    • Semi-Private KH = Killingsworth Hall Double Room (with roommate)
    • Semi-Private RH = Legacy Hall Double Room (with roommate)
    • Semi-Private MT = McCullough-Trigg Hall Double Room (with roommate)
    • Private MT = McCullough-Trigg Hall Private Room
    • Private RH = Legacy Hall Private Room
  • Click on the "Search" Button
  • Room results will appear on the next page.
    • In the residence halls, room numbers with "A" will indicate the space closest to the door and "B" will indicate the space closest to the window. In McCullough-Trigg Hall, "A" will indicate the space to the left and "B" will indicate the space to the right; both spaces have a private door and window.
    • Please note that there may be more than one page, depending on the number of available spaces
    • If no rooms appear, this means there are no spaces available meeting your search criteria. If this happens, go back to the previous page and change the search criteria.
  • Click on the room number you would like to choose.
    • If there are other occupants in the room, it will indicate those potential roommates here.
    • If you do not want to select this room, click on "Room Search Results" next to your name and it will take you back to view a different room.
  • Once you have your desired room selected, click "Select this room"
Step 5: Congratulations! You have now been assigned to your Fall room!

You may change rooms as many times as you would like until June 10. Remember that changes happen frequently during the room selection process. The information available is in "real-time" and reflects the current room assignments. The final room selection on June 10 will be your room assignment for Fall.

Once you have selected your room assignment, it is time to select your Meal Plan.

Living-Learning Program

Living Learning Program

A Living Learning Program (LLP) is a community where students with similar academic goals and common interests live together in a designated residence hall. Students enrolled in an LLP are housed together with access to faculty, staff, and programming unique to each program's special interest area to enhance the Mustangs residential experience.

Interested in living in an LLP community?

Students wishing to join an LLP simply need to indicate this desire on their housing application and they will be auto-assigned to their community if space is available. These rooms are blocked from the room selection process.

If you did not designate an LLP on your housing application, there is still time to sign up. Simply log back into the Housing Portal and change your first room choice to the LLP program, or contact the Office of Residence Life and Housing for more information.

Other Housing Options and Programs

The Office of Residence Life and Housing recognizes an important aspect of the college experience is a student's living situation. Informal learning opportunities outside of the classroom often occur in the informal living environment. As a dynamic living-learning community, we are striving to meet your unique housing needs.

Transfer Students:

Students transferring to Midwestern State University from another university or who are returning to campus after a brief absence are encouraged to look into the Transfer Student Living Learning Program. Spaces are very limited and fill up quickly.

For questions or more information, please contact Housing@MSUTexas.edu

Accommodations:

Many students have unique housing needs that require accommodations. To begin this process, we encourage all students to contact the Office of Disability Support Services to learn about the ways that the University can assist them while living and learning at Midwestern State University.

Students who have documentation on file with the Office of Disability Support Services for housing accommodations will need to complete their room intention form online. Follow the link to Disability Support Services for information on how to complete this form. Once submitted, you will be contacted by the Office of Residence Life and Housing to provide assistance with the remainder of your room selection process. We will set up a time to meet and determine what course of action is best for your individual living situation.
