Future Mustangs Guide to Residence Life and Housing

Congratulations on being accepted to Midwestern State University! This guide is designed to walk you through the Housing process from choosing a new home and applying for housing to packing and arriving on Move-In Day.

Step 1: Explore Your Housing Options

MSU Texas offers several unique on-campus housing options.  Our residence halls, (Killingsworth Hall, Pierce Hall, Legacy Hall, and  McCullough-Trigg Hall), are a great fit for new students. While many of our upperclassmen and transfer students call Sunwatcher Village and Sundance Court their home. Learn more about each space by visiting the Housing Options webpage. While there,  check out the Living Learning Program Communities and see if that program is the right fit for you.

Don't forget to read up on the Housing Policies and check out the Housing and Dining Rates. This information will be helpful while choosing your future home.

Step 2: Time to submit the Housing Application

Once accepted to the University, new and transfer students are ready to apply for housing on  MyResCenter housing portal. Fall housing applications are now available for all new and transfer students. Current students already in housing will have a different housing application process, we encourage them to talk with their Resident Assistants (RAs) for information about this process.  For a step-by-step guide to the application process,  visit the Apply for Housing webpage.

Step 3: Pay the $250 Advanced Payment to reserve your housing space

After submitting a new/transfer student housing application, you will be redirected to Touchnet to pay the $250 Advanced Payment. You will not receive a housing assignment until after the advanced payment is received. Make sure to apply and pay the advanced payment early to reserve your housing space.

Step 4: Check your housing assignment

New and transfer students who apply for housing before May 1 can select their own rooms in early June. Learn more about the Room Selection process and apply early to take advantage of this unique opportunity. Students looking to be a part of the Living Learning Program Communities will start receiving their room assignments as early as April!

Room assignments are on a first-come, first-serve basis. Students are not guaranteed their first room choice. Roommates must be selected and agreed upon by both students to be considered.

Step 5:  Sign up for a Dining Plan

Residents living in the Residents Hall will choose either a Platinum Unlimited, Gold 200 or Silver 150 meal plan on MyResCenter housing portal. For a step-by-step guide to selecting a meal plan and to learn more about which meal plan is right for you, visit the Dining Plan webpage.

Step 6: Get connected and learn about life at MSU Texas

Stay informed on the latest housing information by checking your MSU Texas email regularly and attend all hall meetings with your Resident Assistant (RA). For more tips and information:

Step 7: Get ready for Move-In Day
