How Much Does It Cost to Attend MSU Texas

In order to set up an accurate financial plan, it is important to have a sound understanding of all the expenses associated with college in addition to tuition. This is referred to as the cost of attendance (COA). Since everyone's needs and expenses vary, we have put together resources below to help you start planning.

Tuition & Fees

MSU Texas is consistently ranked as a best value in higher education. Our students enjoy a higher return on investment than the larger flagship universities. This means you will earn more money relative to what you spend on tuition and fees within the first 10 years of graduation from MSU Texas.

Housing & Meal Plans

Check out the residence halls that you might call home over the next few years. We offer a variety of options to suit your needs and preferences.

Outside Expenses

In addition to tuition, housing, and meal costs, you will likely have other expenses to plan for. Books and supplies can be costly if you are not prepared for them.

Calculate Your College Costs

Break down your costs and give yourself more breathing room to make the decisions you need to make about financing your college degree at MSU Texas.

FAFSA and You

We understand that the very idea of the FAFSA is stressful and it seems complicated, but it does not have to be. The Department of Education has made strides to support your needs through the process, and we are here to help, too. You can start filling out the FAFSA as early as October 1 each year.

Is the TASFA the Right Option for You?

Are you feeling overwhelmed about financing your college education as a DACA student? Look no further than the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA). This option serves as an alternative for students who are ineligible for federal financial aid.

The TASFA provides access to state grants and scholarships that can help offset the costs of tuition, textbooks, and other expenses.

While the application process may seem daunting, there are numerous resources available to help applicants navigate the process.

Priority Deadlines

Did you know that there are priority deadlines for financial aid applications?

Submitting your FAFSA or TASFA early can make a huge difference in the amount of aid you receive. Not only does it give you more time to gather any necessary documents but it also ensures that your application is reviewed and processed in a timely manner.

Plus, who does not love getting good news early? So do not delay; submit your financial aid application as soon as possible and get ready to celebrate all the support that is coming your way!

Historically the FAFSA has been available beginning October 1 each year. For the 2024-25 academic year the FAFSA will be delayed until December 2023.

When will my Financial Aid application be processed?

Financial Aid applications are processed in order in which they are received. For this reason, it is important that you submit your application by the priority deadline if you wish your aid to be disbursed on time.

When will I receive my refund?

Refunds are issued to those who have additional financial aid funds available in their student accounts after they have registered for classes. Refunds begin processing on the Thursday before classes begin for those who are eligible.

You can check on the status of your refund by viewing your Account Summary on the MSU Texas Portal.

If you have allowed ample time to receive your refund check but still have not received your refund, please contact the MSU Texas Business Office at bus.office@msutexas.edu or call 940.397.4101.

Can you deposit my refund directly into my bank account?

We can! In fact, we recommend it.

You can set this up by logging in to the MSU Texas Portal. Once there, click on the TouchNet link to complete the Automated Clearing House (ACH) process. You will need your routing and account numbers from your bank. Once you have this set up, your refund will directly deposit into your bank account.

If you do not set up this process, the MSU Texas Business Office will mail a refund check to your current mailing address on file.

I need to have my Financial Aid Award adjusted. What do I need to do?

To have your financial aid adjusted either due to a chance of financial circumstances or nonattendance, you will need to complete a Change Form. All forms can be found on the Financial Aid Forms page. Select the year affected, and then select the Change Form from the list.

I have been selected for verification. Why, and what does that mean?

MSU Texas aid verification is a process that all universities undertake to confirm the accuracy of the information you provided on your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). It involves comparing the data you provided with supporting documents, such as tax returns, to ensure that everything is correct.

Can I appeal to waive Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements?

Yes, there is an appeal process for mitigating factors — death of an immediate family member, a personal illness or injury, or another extenuating circumstance — that has prohibited you from meeting SAP. Specific details about the process are attached to the SAP Appeal Form.
