Dean's Welcome

Dr. Robert Brennan, McCoy College Dean, headshotWelcome to the McCoy College of Science, Mathematics, and Engineering!

It is an honor to serve as Dean of this exceptional college, where our dedicated faculty and staff are committed to supporting students in reaching their academic and professional goals. With the newly renovated Bolin Science Hall, McCoy Hall—home to our Engineering programs—and the 3,000-acre Dalquest Desert Research Station in West Texas, our college offers outstanding facilities designed to inspire learning, innovation, collaboration, and community.

Our college offers undergraduate degrees in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Geosciences, and Mathematics—programs designed to prepare students for critical careers such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, engineering, software development, environmental science, data analytics, and science education. We also offer graduate degrees in Biology, Computer Science, Geosciences, and Industrial Technology.

The quality of our programs and the success of our students are reflected in where our graduates go. Many are accepted into prestigious professional and graduate schools such as Baylor, Notre Dame, Washington University in St. Louis, SMU, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, and UTMB Galveston to name a few. Others build impactful careers at leading organizations including NASA, SpaceX, Amazon, Apple, Boeing, General Motors, IBM, Google and numerous local and regional employers.

Several key elements contribute to our students' success. Our small class sizes allow students to work closely with faculty who are subject-matter experts and gain hands-on experience with advanced laboratory instruments. We offer specialized pre-health professions advising to support students pursuing admission to medical, dental, pharmacy, and physical therapy programs. Every department and school provides student organizations and research opportunities that help students build leadership, communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills. In addition, our strong partnerships with top companies and agencies in the region create valuable internship opportunities that give students real-world experience and a competitive edge after graduation.

We are committed not only to your academic and professional success but also to your personal well-being. Our goal is to foster a strong sense of community—a place where every student feels accepted, valued, and respected. We offer a variety of opportunities to connect with faculty and staff outside the classroom, including events like the Back-to-School Bash, Open Forums with the Dean, Finals Trivia Night, and the End-of-the-Year Picnic.

Thank you for visiting and considering the McCoy College of Science, Mathematics and Engineering as you pursue your path to a rewarding STEM career. I encourage you to explore our website and contact us with your questions.
