Students may apply for admission to the Bachelor of Science during Athletic Training program in the Spring semester; if accepted, they will begin the professional phase of the program the following Fall semester.

Applications for admission to the Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training program are accepted February 1 - March 1.

Pre-Professional Phase

The pre-professional phase is open to any student who wishes to pursue a degree in Athletic Training. This phase of the program is designed to help the student gain an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the Athletic Trainer, and also develop a foundation of skills and knowledge that are necessary for successful advancement through the professional phase of the Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training program.

The Athletic Training pre-professional curriculum is open to any beginning freshman or transfer student who has been admitted to Midwestern State University. Students interested in the Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training program should seek advisement from the Athletic Training Program faculty.

The pre-professional curriculum consists of the following courses:

  • ATRN 1171- Introduction to Athletic Training Lab
  • ATRN 1173- Introduction to Athletic Training
  • ATRN 2211- Emergency Care and First Aid Lab
  • ATRN 2213- Emergency Care and First Aid
  • BIOL 1134- Anatomy and Physiology I

*It is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that students also complete the following courses as part of the pre-professional curriculum:

  • BIOL 1234 Anatomy and Physiology II
  • ATRN 1203 Health & Wellness

Please review the recommended course sequence for students seeking a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training.

Clinical Observation Prerequisites for the Pre-professional Student

Documentation of the following IS REQUIRED before a student can begin clinical observation:

  • Completion of Blood Borne Pathogen Training
  • Completion of HIPAA Training
  • Completion of FERPA Training

Admission to the Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training program is competitive, and completion of the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission into the professional program. Applicants who are not formally accepted into the professional phase of the program may not enroll in any Athletic Training (ATRN) upper-level courses, and they are not eligible to earn a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training degree. These applicants may reapply for admission to the professional phase of the program during the following academic year.
