Description

Develops and maintains a residential environment conducive to the personal growth and academic success of the resident students. Responsibilities include ongoing student development activities, behavior management, conduct adjudication, building management and operations, staff training and supervision, and housing and residence life administrative functions. A full time, 12 month live-in position reporting to the Assistant Director of Residence Life & Housing.

 
Examples

Counsels resident students on personal and academic problems. Serves as conduct officer for residential students. Communicates with Facilities Services regarding maintenance/custodial needs. Participates in the selection, training and supervision of RAs. Orders supplies and equipment. Advises residence hall governing council. Coordinates programming that meets the developmental needs of residents. Coordinates summer camp housing. 

 
Physical Condition

Experience

Two years residence hall management experience. Preference for experience in advising student groups, experience in staff supervision and leadership development and crisis management.

 
Knowledge

The ability to manage people and resources, teach, direct, guide and mediate; counseling skills for a wide range of student and staff concerns; excellent decision-making skills; knowledge and applications of student development theories and the impact of a residential living-learning environment on student development. Maturity and ability to command respect of residents; sensitivity and skill to work with a dynamic student and employee population; the ability to administer student conduct programs; the ability to work under pressure and uneven time constraints.

 
Education

Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in college student personnel, counseling or related area preferred.

 
Additional Requirements

Strong interpersonal and written communication skills, demonstrated ability to plan and implement program and activities. Position requires participation in an on-call duty rotation. Must be able to deal with stressful situations.
