Title
Central Plant Assistant Superintendent
Description

Assists the power plant superintendent in performing responsible supervisory and technical work directing the operating and maintenance activities of a power plant. Work involves supervising a group of employees engaged in operating and making repairs to heating and air conditioning equipment, planning and scheduling operation and maintenance of equipment, and directing in-service training program for subordinate employees. An employee filling this position is expected to carry out and execute the plans and policies of the Power Plant Supervisor, with minimum supervision.

Examples

Inspects and supervises plant operation. Plans and supervises in-service training program. Reviews working schedules of plant employees. Draws up detailed instructions for operation of turbines, compressors, boilers, pumps, and other equipment. Devises forms for operational records, adapted to cost accounting computations. Initiates requisitions for plan equipment and supplies.

Physical Condition

Moderate physical activity with occasional lifting of objects weighing over fifty pounds. Requires employment physical exam.

Experience

Responsible experience, including supervisory experience, in the operation and maintenance of a steam and refrigeration plan.

Knowledge

Knowledge of the technical principles and approved methods and practices involved in the operation and maintenance of steam heating and refrigeration plants. Thorough knowledge of the hazards and approved safety requirements and practices in such plants. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates and supervisors.

Education

Graduation from a standard high school, including or supplemented by vocational training or other special training related to the field of work.

Additional Requirements

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Five to ten years experience in power plant operations with heavy emphasis on planning, coordinating and supervision. Mechanical knowledge of equipment in power plant and buildings on campus. Computer knowledge, book work skills and general supervision of employees. *A valid Texas driver's license is required. *Regular reliable attendance is required.* Must be available some nights and weekends. Must periodically serve on a standby or on-call basis. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
