- Central Plant Assistant Superintendent
- Description
Assists the power plant superintendent in performing responsible supervisory and technical work directing the operating and maintenance activities of a power plant. Work involves supervising a group of employees engaged in operating and making repairs to heating and air conditioning equipment, planning and scheduling operation and maintenance of equipment, and directing in-service training program for subordinate employees. An employee filling this position is expected to carry out and execute the plans and policies of the Power Plant Supervisor, with minimum supervision.
- Examples
Inspects and supervises plant operation. Plans and supervises in-service training program. Reviews working schedules of plant employees, and ensures 24/7 shifts are covered. Generates detailed instructions for operation of turbines, compressors, boilers, pumps, and other equipment. Devises forms for operational records, adapted to cost accounting computations. Initiates requisitions for plant equipment and supplies. Oversees the campus preventive maintenance program, and Central Plant when the Superintendent is not available.
- Physical Condition
Moderate physical activity with occasional lifting of objects weighing over fifty pounds. Ability to stoop, bend, crawl, climb ladders (step ladders and extension ladders) and stairs. Ability to access crawl spaces under buildings. Requires employment physical exam.
- Experience
Responsible experience, including supervisory experience, in the operation and maintenance of a steam and refrigeration plant. Experience with reading and reviewing drawings of campus utility systems. Must have knowledge of plumbing, electronic controls, HVAC systems, building alarms and fire systems. Has experience with computer Microsoft software such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Knowledge
Knowledge of the technical principles and approved methods and practices involved in the operation and maintenance of steam heating and refrigeration plants. Thorough knowledge of the hazards and approved safety requirements and practices in such plants. Mechanical knowledge of equipment in power plant and buildings on campus. Computer knowledge, book work and documentation skills and general supervision of employees..
- Education
Graduation from a standard high school, including or supplemented by vocational training or other special training related to the field of work.
- Additional Requirements
Ability to be on a 24/7 on call status. Available to work other shifts on a routine basis including weekends and holidays.
