- Description
Evaluates the requirements for the University’s receipt of a student’s military benefit(s) by: analyzing and monitoring the student’s enrollment.
- Examples
Processes veteran’s affairs enrollment certifications for eligible students by coordinating with applicable University departments and ensures all benefits and related documentation including certification forms and status change forms are processed timely and accurately. Coordinates timely filing of all state and federal reports related to Veterans Benefits. Stays abreast of the changing regulatory environment that may impact the University’s policies and procedures for receiving and processing of military benefits. Attends the mandatory meetings/workshops, and webinars that impact students benefits and success as well as the University’s compliance. Troubleshoots student issues and assists leaders in working with the military funding sources to investigate and resolves student complaints. Disseminates shopping sheets to prospective students and proactive communications to continuing students regarding regulatory changes that impact a student’s eligibility for military benefits. Hires and supervises VA Work study student assistants in accordance with federal and university policies. Performs other duties as assigned on an as needed basis ensuring quality improvements in all aspects of the Office of the Registrar including but not limited to degree audits and commencement activities.
- Physical Condition
Must have the physical ability to carry work supplies and to carry files to and from the vault.
- Experience
Requires two to three years prior administrative/secretarial/clerical experience. Experience with using and maintaining Degree Works, or similar degree audit software a plus. Banner student information system experience a plus.
- Knowledge
Must have a good knowledge of student enrollment procedures, university policies, regulations, and degree requirements, as well as general admission requirements and transfer credit policies. Considerable knowledge and use of good oral and written English and strong communication skills. Ability to proofread and correct own work. Knowledge of Veteran Education Benefits and financial aid programs a plus. Must be knowledgeable in standard office practices and procedures and proficient in the use of personal computers and commonly used office software programs, especially the Microsoft Office Suite products, Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Education
Bachelor's degree in counseling, accounting, business, or related fields is preferred. High school graduation plus equivalent academic related college or university experience may be acceptable.
- Additional Requirements
Diplomatic telephone and interpersonal skills required to handle difficult situations which may occur for students with academic problems, who are navigating re-entry into civilian life after serving in the armed forces; or international students with a limited understanding of the American system of higher education. Must have the ability to work well with people, to include interacting with faculty and administrators as well as students. Must be able to establish and maintain good working relationships with office staff. Must have strong public relations skills in dealing with the public and students and a compassionate and caring customer service attitude. Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality. Must maintain and promote a spirit of teamwork as a member of the Office of the Registrar.
