Information Technology Operations Manager
Description

Under the general supervision of the Chief Information Officer, confers with University faculty and administrative staff to define microcomputer needs. Coordinates and manages all University general access computer laboratories to include laboratory staffing. Coordinates and manages maintenance of University owned personal computers. Coordinates and manages installation and maintenance of University site-licensed personal computer software. Coordinates computer and server replacements, upgrades, maintenance and cost estimates. Manages network server operations, configuration, licensing, and virtualization. Manages Active Directory including configuration, account provisioning, role management, group policy and script management. Oversees email account provisioning, certificate management and domain management. Maintains budgetary information and campus computing standards and client computing platforms including hardware and software

Examples

The IT Operations Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and maintaining strategies and initiatives in the following key areas:  Perform on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex desktop problems for end-users, and recommend and implement corrective solutions, including off-site repair for remote users as needed.  Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot end-user and network hardware, peripheral devices, printing/scanning devices, presentation equipment, software, and other products in order to deliver required desktop service levels.  Physical and virtual server configuration including volume license manager, print services, database services and file services.  Construct, install, and test customized configurations based on various platforms and operating systems.  Active Directory management including installation, configuration, role management, replication, account provisioning, DHCP and DNS management.  Supervise technical and help desk staff members to ensure efficient operation of the organization's desktop computing environment.  Where required, administer and resolve issues with associated end-user workstation network software products. Responsible for microcomputer hardware and software installation and support services to include microcomputer hardware and/or software problem determination and resolution. Assist in providing microcomputer application software training for faculty and staff. Perform other duties as defined by the management.

Physical Condition

Ability to lift 50 lbs. Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.

Experience

At least 5 years' work experience in personal computing with strong emphasis on system integration. At least 3 years' experience in management, direction of staff, and major projects. Prefer college degree, however, technical training and a strong background in microcomputer hardware installation and repair is acceptable. Strong background in microcomputer software installation and troubleshooting. Technical training in and a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server, and Advanced Server based networks.

Knowledge

Knowledge of microcomputer hardware and software installation and repair. Knowledge Microsoft Windows server operating systems, and various Unix platforms. Strong scheduling, project management and planning skills.

Education

Prefer college degree; however, high school graduation with heavy experience in the specific job areas is acceptable. Considerable specialized training in personal computers hardware and software installation and troubleshooting or equivalent experience.
