Welcome to New Student Orientation!

Transitioning to a new university can seem overwhelming. New Student Orientation is here to help you take the first step in the student on-boarding process. You can use this page before, during, and after your Orientation session.

Before your New Student Orientation Session

Try to complete the following items before your New Student Orientation (NSO) session. This will help set you up for success and get the most out of your time on-campus.
  • Check Your TSI Status

TSI scores should be on file with MSU Texas Admissions before your Orientation date.

If you are TSI-Incomplete and are noted as "Needing to Test" in any section of "Math and/or ELAR," contact your Admissions Counselor.

  • Pay the Parent/Guest Fee

To streamline the check-in process, you can pay the Parent/Guest Fee of $20. We recommend paying in advance. This is a non-refundable fee. Limit of 2 guests per student.
  • Declare Your Major

From 6 Academic Colleges to choose from, you are bound to find an academic path that you will feel comfortable with. If you are Undecided, we encourage you to choose one of the 6 Academic Colleges to learn more about.

Check Your TSI Status

Check your specific TSI status on WebWorld:  Current MSU students and newly admitted students can check their TSI status on WebWorld through the   MSU Texas Portal. Login and then on the left side under QuickLaunch Navigation, click on Student Records, then click View Holds. If you have a TSI Hold because you need to take the assessment, you sections you need to take will be indicated.

Pay the Parent/Guest Fee

For parents or guests that choose to attend the optional in-person parent/guest orientation program, a $20 per person fee can be paid online in advance. A maximum of 2 guests may attend per in-person session, with each registered student.
