The IB program is designed to educate students from a global perspective. Students who successfully complete courses in six core subject areas earn an IB diploma. Students who do not complete all six requirements can earn an IB certificate. More information about the IB program is available at https://ibo.org/programmes/diploma-programme.
Midwestern State University's prospective students who earn the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma are offered unconditional admission status to MSU Texas. Scholarships will be offered to diploma students through the University scholarship program if MSU Texas Admissions is notified by April 1, and if students enter MSU Texas directly from high school.
It is the responsibility of the prospective IB student to notify MSU Texas Admissions. Students from high schools that offer IB courses but not the diploma may receive credit according to the same criteria. An official IB transcript must be sent to MSU Texas Admissions. All IB students must show proof of meeting the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements prior to their initial enrollment at Midwestern State and meet published university application deadlines.
IB Policy Overview
Midwestern State University recognizes the value of the International Baccalaureate program and has approved the granting of credit for the IB Higher Level (HL) and Standard Level (SL) exams when a score of five (5) or higher is obtained. A score of four (4) or higher on any Higher or Standard level exams will be awarded to IB diploma candidates only.
MSU Texas will accept up to 60 hours of credit by examination for IB exams. MSU Texas Admissions evaluates IB credit as transfer credit.
High Level Exams Grades Accepted
- Seven (7) or Six (6) = A
- Five (5) = B
- Four (4) = Credit for diploma candidates only*
Standard Level Exams Grades Accepted

Submitting your IB Transcript
The easiest way to ensure that MSU Texas receives your IB transcript is to name MSU Texas as a recipient when you sign up for IB program exam(s). If you do not name MSU Texas as a recipient when you take your exam, contact the IB Organization to request that an official IB transcript be sent directly to the MSU Texas Admissions Office.
Please reach out to the MSU Texas Admissions Office with questions or concerns.
